Beef Stew and Fixings
Utensils: Frying pan, Kettle, Dutch Oven, Pot
Cooks: Put about 3 tablespoons of shortening in frying pan and put over coals to heat.
Put kettle half filled with water on coals to heat. Mix 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper together in a bag or small bowl. Cut meat in to 2 in. pieces. Rub meat in flour mixture, doing a few pieces at a time. When frying pan is hot, start brown meat. Do not overload pan. With out piercing meat, place into Dutch oven. Remove ends of onions and dice into small pieces and brown with the last of the meat. After all is done, add 2 cups of water to frying pan and bring to a boil while scraping the bottom of the pan. When boiling, pour into Dutch oven. Cook over low heat for about 1.5 hours. It should be simmering at all times, check every 20 minutes or so. Add hot water if needed to keep meat covered. One hour before you expect to eat, peel and cut potatoes into 1 inch cubes, scrape carrots and remove the ends, also slicing them into 1/2 slices. Put in Dutch oven. Mix Bisquick (2 cups, 3/4 cup milk).
Put large spoonfuls of mix on top of stew 15 minutes before stew is done. Cover and add extra coals to lid.
This must be done FAST.
In pot put 4 cups water, 1 tablespoon salt, and 4 tablespoons butter. Bring to a boil then add 4 cups minute rice. In small pot put canned peas, bring to a boil then simmer 5 minutes
