1 1/2 lbs round steak
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
2 bouillon cubes
2 1/2 cups water
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp thyme
1 cup sour cream
Rice (enough for your patrol)
Before the campout:
Trim fat off of beef and cut into finger length strips. Brown steak strips quickly. Freeze steak.
At the campsite:
Chop the onion and brown in the bottom of the DO (in a small amount of cooking oil). Add beef. For thicker sauce, sprinkle in about 2 Tbsp flour. While cooking the onion, boil water and add bouillon cubes. When dissolved, slowly add the water to the DO (remember, water must be hot or could crack the oven). Add remaining seasonings; stir well. Bake at 300° for 50-60 min.
While the stroganoff is cooking, cook some rice (suggest boil-in bags) -- timing the rice so it'll be done when the stroganoff is finished.
Five minutes before serving add sour cream.
Serve over the rice.
