Another Utah favorite is fried scones. Nearly any bread dough recipe will work, and frozen bread or roll dough makes it especially easy. (Frozen roll dough is already portioned for the boys.) While heating 1 to 1-1/2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy skillet or dutch oven, have the boys flatten their dough ball (about a 2” ball per boy) on a piece of waxed paper with a little flour on it to prevent sticking. The thinner the dough the better. When a small pinch of dough is dropped into the oil, it should immediately start to bubble and pop to the top. Slide bread dough, one at a time, carefully into the hot oil. When the edges just start to turn golden, flip the scone over using a long handled fork. When golden all over, remove from hot oil and drain on a paper towel. Top with butter and honey or powdered sugar.
