Portuguese Soup

2 lb Beef brisket or stew
1/4 c Vegetable oil
1 lg Onion, chopped
3 cl Garlic, pressed
1 qt Water
2 cn 15 oz tomato sauce
1/4 c Chopped parsley
2 ts Salt
1/4 ts Pepper
1/2 ts Crushed coriander
1 Bay leaf
2 lg Potatoes, peeled and cut into 1" cubes
1 c Port or red wine
1 Bunch swiss chard, collards spinach, or kale, chopped

In a kettle or Dutch oven, brown meat in oil. Add onion, garlic, water, tomato sauce, parsley, salt, pepper, coriander, and bay leaf. Simmer, covered, for 3 hours. Stir in potatoes and wine and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes. Add greens and simmer, uncovered for 10 minutes. Remove bay leaf.
