Cheese and Garlic Loaf

500ml Buttermilk
500g Self raising flour
1 pkt Brown onion Soup
3ml Mixed Herbs
2tsp Crushed garlic (more can be added according to taste)
200g Cheddar Cheese (grated)

Mix all dry ingredients.

Add Buttermilk and mix well.

Place dough into baking tin.

Sprinkle grated cheese on top plus spices (optional).

Part of the grated cheese can be mixed in with the dough. It tends to add a little bit of flavour when it bakes.

Preheat Dutch Oven before placing baking tin into it. Ensure you have a few pebbles below the baking tin. This prevents the bottom of the bread from burning.

Place approximately 8 briquettes on the top and 10 - 12 briquettes at the bottom of the Dutch Oven. Monitor the coals. If they go down quicker than expected (wind factor), add a few as baking commences.

Depending on the heat you have, baking time will vary between 45 and 60 minutes.
